Hrádek u Nechanic, Gothic Revival château in Hrádek, Czech Republic.
Hrádek u Nechanic is a château near the town of Nechanice, in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic, built in a mix of Gothic Revival and Neoclassical styles. The building has several towers, battlements, and richly decorated interiors that give it the appearance of a medieval English manor.
The château was commissioned in the early 19th century by the Harrach family, one of the leading noble families of Bohemia, to replace an older manor on the same site. Construction lasted several decades and was completed around 1857, making the building one of the last major aristocratic projects of its kind in Bohemia.
The castle is surrounded by an English-style landscape park that visitors can walk through freely, offering views of the building from different angles. The park is a popular spot for locals on weekends, giving the place a relaxed, everyday feel alongside its grander rooms.
The interior is accessible only through guided tours, so booking in advance is a good idea, especially in summer. The park around the building is open to walk through on your own and requires no reservation.
The château was designed to resemble an English country house, which was an unusual choice for Bohemia at the time. The architect, Eduard Müller, had trained under Karl Friedrich Schinkel, the leading German architect of the 19th century, which explains the precise detailing of the facades.
