Slavkov Castle

Slavkov Castle is a Baroque residence in Moravia with roughly 115 rooms decorated with intricate frescoes, ornamental details, and fine furnishings from the 18th century. The building features a symmetrical layout and is surrounded by formal French-style gardens that enhance its grand appearance.

This castle began as a 13th-century stronghold built by the Teutonic Knights but was completely redesigned in the Baroque style after 1696. It later gained widespread attention when it became the setting for significant diplomatic negotiations in the early 1800s.

The main ceremonial room features large frescoes painted in the 18th century that reflect the power and taste of the noble family who lived here. These wall paintings show how the aristocracy displayed their wealth and status through art.

The castle is open most days and can be explored independently or with guided tours led by knowledgeable staff. The formal gardens are accessible for walking, though surfaces can be uneven and slippery during wet weather.

The oval main hall became the site of a crucial peace agreement between two major European powers in December 1805. Standing in this room, visitors experience the exact space where this pivotal moment in European history took place.
