Kostomlaty Castle, Castle ruin in Kostomlaty pod Milešovkou, Czech Republic
Kostomlaty Castle is a medieval ruin on Kostomlaty Hill featuring two square forts, a rounded tower, and remnants of palace structures. The site displays stone walls in varying states of preservation.
The castle was built in the early 14th century by the Osek nobles and changed ownership during the Hussite wars. It was abandoned by 1606 and gradually fell into decay.
The castle reflects bergfrit architectural traditions that shaped medieval fortifications across North Bohemia. Its visible remains show how builders designed defensive structures during that period.
The ruins are reached via a blue-marked hiking trail starting from the village of Kostomlaty pod Milešovkou. The path winds through the surrounding landscape and brings you directly to the site.
In the 18th century, a tavern operated in the forecourt area, bringing temporary revival to the abandoned location. This period of renewed activity ended relatively quickly.
