Kost Castle, Gothic castle in Podkost, Czech Republic.
Kost Castle is a fortress situated on a sandstone cliff at the intersection of three valleys. The stronghold features a trapezoid-shaped tower and is protected by two concentric circles of defensive walls.
The fortress was founded before 1349 by Beneš von Wartenberg and later passed through several noble families. The Schellenberg, Biberstein, and Lobkowicz dynasties were among those who ruled it.
The exhibition spaces tell the story of the Kinský family and their connection to this place. You can also see historical weapons and a preserved Renaissance kitchen with period cooking equipment.
The fortress is located approximately 18 kilometers from Jičín and can be explored with guided tours. Visitors can view aristocratic chambers, an armory, and St. Anne's chapel during their visit.
The fortress is named after its distinctive white tower, called Bílá věž. Unlike many castles, it sits between two streams on relatively level ground rather than atop a hilltop.
