The stone walls and towers of Kumburk rise from a hilltop, displaying medieval fortification elements and defensive structures from different construction periods.
The Vartemberk noble family established Kumburk castle at the start of the 14th century, initially naming it Goldenberk before it underwent multiple ownership changes.
The castle remains represent an important example of Gothic military architecture in the Czech Republic, leading to its designation as a national cultural monument.
Visitors can reach Kumburk through a 3-kilometer yellow-marked trail from Syřenov railway station or alternative paths from Nová Paka and Stará Paka.
The northeastern section of Kumburk contains a 15th-century fortification system designed specifically to defend against cannon attacks.
