Pecka Castle

Pecka Castle is a Gothic castle ruin in the town of Pecka, rising above the surrounding landscape with a commanding presence. The remains contain preserved stone walls and architectural features from the medieval period that illustrate medieval building methods.

The castle was founded in 1322 as a Gothic fortress and later transformed into a residential palace during the late 16th century. This shift reflected the transition from a military stronghold to an aristocratic dwelling.

The location was inhabited by various noble families over centuries, each leaving their mark on how the space was used and organized. Visitors can see how different periods of occupation shaped the layout and purpose of the structures.

The ruins sit elevated above the town and can be reached from several access points, though the paths are uneven and sometimes steep. Wear sturdy shoes and bring protection from the weather, as there is little shelter on the grounds.

A devastating fire in 1830 destroyed much of the building, yet the stone walls survived to show how solidly the structure was constructed. These damaged remains offer rare insight into medieval construction strength and durability.
