Strakonice Castle, Gothic castle in Strakonice, Czech Republic
Strakonice Castle is a castle in the city of Strakonice, Czech Republic, built across three different architectural styles. The structure contains the Church of St Procope, a capitulary hall, and interior wall paintings that decorate its rooms.
The castle was founded in the late 12th century by the Bavor family and witnessed major historical events over time. Part of the structure was transferred to the Knights of St John in 1243, and it later resisted a siege by Hussite forces in 1420.
The castle houses a regional museum that displays objects from local history, including pipes, weapons, and motorcycles from different periods. Visitors can see everyday items that shaped life in this region over time.
The site is located in central Strakonice at Zámek 1. Visitors can contact the information center before their visit to learn about current opening hours and available guided tours.
The Rumpál tower is one of the highest points of the castle and offers views over the city and surrounding area. The castle courtyard transforms into a traditional Christmas market each year during the holiday season.
