Rajhrad Benedictine Monastery, Benedictine monastery in Rajhrad, Czech Republic

The monastery complex features the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, constructed in baroque style with detailed architectural elements and extensive interior decorations.

Founded in 1045 by Duke Bretislaus I, this monastery stands as the oldest Benedictine institution in Moravia, maintaining its religious purpose through centuries.

The Monument of Literature in Moravia, housed within the monastery, contains a substantial collection of manuscripts, historical documents, and regional literary works.

Located 10 kilometers south of Brno, the monastery opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00, with guided tours available in multiple languages.

The monastery library preserves ceiling frescoes, gilded stucco decorations, and documents from Prokop Diviš, who invented the lightning conductor.
