HC Škoda Plzeň first played on the winter rink on 11 February 1950, against Slávia Prešov in a friendly, on the site of the city's former cattle market. The playing surface was covered between 1966 and 1970, and the city spent about 150 million Czech koruna on modernisation between 2002 and 2005.
The venue serves as the home base for HC Škoda Plzeň ice hockey team and is central to the city's sports culture. Fans gather here throughout the season to watch matches and support their local squad.
