National Stud at Kladruby nad Labem

The National Stud at Kladruby nad Labem is a horse stud farm in the Czech Republic housing approximately 500 horses split between grey and black Kladruber breeds across its extensive grounds. The facility includes stables, carriage exhibitions, and a museum that documents the breeding history.

The stud was founded in 1579 by Emperor Rudolf II, making it one of Europe's oldest continuously operating horse breeding facilities. For over 500 years, this place has maintained and developed its breeding traditions.

Kladruber horses serve in ceremonial roles at European royal courts, with greys designated for royal occasions and black horses traditionally for church functions. These roles shape how the breed is valued today within European heritage traditions.

The grounds are open to visitors through guided tours of the stables and museum, offering insight into daily work and operations. Comfortable walking shoes are advisable since visiting involves considerable time moving across the facility.
