Soběslav, Historical municipality in Tábor District, Czech Republic
Soběslav is a town with privileges in the Tábor region of South Bohemia, situated along the Lužnice river at about 405 meters elevation. The town center features a Gothic church with a public lookout tower overlooking the main square.
The town received privileges in 1390 and later became a residence of the Rosenberg family in the 16th century. The church was rebuilt in its current Gothic form between 1493 and 1517.
Two museums in Renaissance buildings display collections about local life and nature. You can see how people in the region lived and worked in earlier times.
The town is easy to reach by train or the D3 motorway, which connects to Prague and České Budějovice. The church lookout tower and two museums are the main attractions, and a half-day visit is usually sufficient to see them.
The church's lookout tower is open to the public and offers a rare view of the town square and surrounding rooftops. This chance to see the town from above is unusual for places of this size.
