Červený Hrádek, Protected château in Sedlčany, Czech Republic.
Červený Hrádek is a neo-Gothic castle situated on elevated ground near the town center of Sedlčany. The structure features multiple pointed towers and is surrounded by landscaped gardens that frame the building.
The castle originated in the 13th century and underwent major redesign in 1894 under architect Jan Kotěra. Its transformation from early Gothic through Baroque periods to its present neo-Gothic form reflects the building's long evolution.
The name "Červený Hrádek" comes from the red color of the castle walls, which remains visible today. Visitors can see this distinctive hue while walking around the property and understand how the local community named this place.
The castle is within walking distance from Sedlčany town center, making it easy to reach on foot. It is advisable to check visiting arrangements beforehand, as conditions may vary depending on the season.
Following the fall of communist rule, the last Baron Mladota invested his personal wealth accumulated during exile in New York to restore the castle. This dedication allowed the building to recover after decades of neglect.
