Červená Lhota Castle, Renaissance castle in South Bohemia, Czech Republic
Červená Lhota Castle sits on a rocky island in the middle of a lake in South Bohemia. A stone bridge from the 1600s links the structure to the shoreline and provides the main access point for visitors.
The site began as a Gothic fortress in the 1300s and underwent major reworking between the mid-1500s under the Káb family. These changes gave it the Renaissance look it still displays today.
The interior spaces hold collections of historical furniture, paintings, and porcelain that reflect the lives of the families who lived here. Walking through the rooms gives visitors a sense of how Czech nobility once moved through their daily world.
The castle is easily reached by walking across the bridge to the island. Marked pathways loop around the surrounding fishponds and allow visitors to explore the grounds at their own pace.
The castle's name comes from the bright red plaster applied in 1597 that transformed its outward look. This distinctive red coating remains visible from a distance and gives the structure its most recognizable feature.
