Luhačovická přehrada, reservoir
The Luhačovická Reservoir is a large body of water near Pozlovice held back by an earth-filled dam. The water supplies the surrounding region and the dam itself stands about 17 meters high, with walking and cycling paths, picnic areas, and swimming spots circling the shores.
Construction of the dam began in 1912 with the goal of protecting the town of Luhačovice from flooding, but was interrupted during World War One. Work resumed after the war and the facility was completed in 1930.
The name comes from the nearby spa town of Luhačovice. Today this reservoir serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors come to spend time outdoors together, fishing, swimming, or walking along the water.
Access is straightforward with parking at the dam site and surrounding areas, while public transport connects the region. Showers, toilets, and picnic areas are on site, and in warmer months there are boat rentals and a public swimming pool called Duha at the southern shore.
The dam is built from compacted earth rather than concrete, setting it apart from many modern structures. This unusual construction method has proven reliable over nearly a century and makes the dam an interesting example of historical engineering.
