Mariina skála, Sandstone viewpoint in Jetřichovice, Czech Republic.
Mariina skála is a sandstone outcrop rising approximately 428 meters (1,400 feet) above the surrounding terrain in the heart of Bohemian Switzerland. A wooden observation platform stands at the summit, providing views across the forested landscape and distant peaks in multiple directions.
A nobleman ordered construction of a wooden observation hut at the summit around 1856 to monitor the forest for fires. Following a fire that destroyed the original structure in 2005, the tower was rebuilt while maintaining its role in fire detection.
The site is named after a local figure from folklore and functions today as a gathering place for hikers exploring the region. People regularly come here to experience the panoramic views and connect with the surrounding landscape.
The climb starts from Jetřichovice village following marked hiking trails, with wooden stairs and handrails aiding the final ascent. The trails remain open year-round, though visitors should expect slippery conditions during wet weather.
The wooden structure continues to serve as an active fire observation station for the national park and is regularly used by forestry officials. This practical function makes the location more than just a tourist viewpoint.
