U Fleků, brewery
U Fleků is a brewery in Prague with eight halls and an outdoor garden that seats around 1100 people. The spaces have distinct characters: the Václavka hall features stained-glass windows, the Academy hall served as a cultural meeting point, and the Knights Hall displays romantic decoration throughout.
The first documented record dates to 1499 when brewer Vít Skřemenec purchased the house. During the communist era it was taken over by the state, but in 1991 the Brtník family reclaimed it, allowing the brewery's traditions to continue uninterrupted.
The name comes from a former owner, and today it remains a gathering place where locals and visitors share meals and stories. The Academy Hall once hosted important figures from Czech culture, reflecting its role as more than just a drinking establishment.
The brewery is open year-round from late morning until evening, giving flexible visiting hours. Tours are available by reservation on weekdays, while weekend tours require dining at the restaurant.
A brewing museum displays old equipment, machines, and even a historic room where malt was once dried using wood smoke. These preserved methods offer visitors a tangible view of how beer was made centuries ago.
