Lužany Castle is a baroque château in Lužany u Přeštic that blends 17th-century architectural forms with later Neo-Renaissance additions. The building sits at approximately 358 meters elevation and displays the layering of different architectural periods on its facade.
The castle was purchased by Josef Hlávka from industrialist Franz von Ringhoffer in 1867 and underwent major renovation work. Between 1886 and 1888, extensive modifications reshaped the building's character.
The castle operates as a venue for artistic gatherings and intellectual meetings under the Hlávka Foundation's stewardship. Visitors experience how the building connects architectural beauty with creative life in the Czech lands.
The castle sits between Pilsen and Klatovy and is accessible via Lužany railway station, which has operated since 1877. Visitors can easily explore the area using public transport or enjoy walking through the surrounding countryside.
The castle served as a refuge during an 1889 flood when surrounding areas were severely affected by rising waters. Its elevated location provided shelter to many people fleeing the flooding.
