Nový Berštejn is a castle on a hilltop near Dubá featuring Renaissance foundations with Baroque elements added over time. The structure displays how different building styles were combined as the property changed hands and tastes evolved.
Construction began in 1553 when Jiri Berka built it for Adam Berka of the Ronovec House as a notable estate of the era. Major rebuilding in the 18th century gave it the form it has today.
The castle takes its name from the Berka family, who shaped the estate across generations and influenced its regional significance. The location reflects how people today connect past traditions with contemporary uses of the space.
The castle grounds are open from May through October with guided tours explaining its architectural changes. Wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is hilly with uneven paths in some areas.
The grounds are now used for recreation and sports, featuring an English park, tennis courts, and a nine-hole golf course. This shows how it retained its importance while adapting to modern leisure activities.
