Castle in Velké Losiny

The castle in Velké Losiny is a three-winged Renaissance structure surrounding a central courtyard with an octagonal tower at its center. The building combines early Renaissance style with later Baroque modifications that developed across its centuries of use.

Built between 1567 and 1589 by Jan the Younger of Zierotin, it replaced an earlier fortress that occupied the same location. The structure later became the site of significant legal proceedings in the late 17th century that marked this region's history.

The chapel displays religious frescoes from the 18th century that reflect the family's faith and devotion. The rooms throughout the building show how nobility lived and conducted daily life here across centuries.

The castle is accessible through guided tours that take visitors through rooms featuring Renaissance and Baroque elements while explaining the building's evolution. Regular opening hours are maintained, so it helps to check schedules in advance as times can vary by season.

The knight's hall features an elaborate Renaissance coffered ceiling that showcases detailed craftsmanship from that era. This ornate woodwork frequently captures visitors' attention as a standout example of the skilled work that defined the period.
