Horácký zimní stadion, Indoor ice rink in Jihlava, Czech Republic
Horácký zimní stadion is an indoor ice rink in Jihlava, Czech Republic, with a full-size playing surface and seating for several thousand spectators. A smaller secondary rink sits alongside the main ice, and the complex also contains a fitness center and a restaurant.
The rink was started in September 1954 as an open-air facility and opened at the end of 1955. In the late 1960s, architect Jan Řídký oversaw a major redesign that gave the building its current covered form.
The stadium is home to HC Dukla Jihlava, where ice hockey fans gather throughout the year to watch home games and major competitions. The venue shapes the city's sports life and brings crowds together to experience the sport in person.
The rink is on Tolstého street in Jihlava and can be reached by public transport without much difficulty. It is worth checking in advance whether the ice is open for public skating or reserved for club use on your chosen day.
The roof built in 1967 uses an inverted truss system, meaning the structure pulls upward from the inside rather than pushing down. This approach was uncommon in Czechoslovakia at the time and allowed the facade to be filled with a continuous band of glass.
