Vítkův hrádek, Medieval castle ruin in Dvoreček, Czech Republic
The stone tower of Vítkův hrádek measures 17.5 by 14 meters and stands at an elevation of 1,053 meters above sea level.
The castle, constructed between 1220 and 1277, served as a temporary prison for King Václav IV during his transport to Austria in 1394.
The castle ruins generated numerous regional tales, including stories of a headless priest and inspired Adalbert Stifter's 1865 historical novel Vítek.
Visitors reach the castle through a 300-meter uphill path from the parking area at Svatý Tomáš, with access routes from Český Krumlov.
From the residential tower, visitors observe the Šumava Mountains, Lipno reservoir, and Austrian Alps across the Czech-Austrian border.
