Mostiště Reservoir, reservoir in Vídeň, Czech Republic
Mostiště Reservoir is a large body of water held back by a dam near Vídeň in the Vysočina region. The dam stretches about 340 meters across and contains water that spreads over approximately 93 hectares, creating a lake several kilometers long.
The reservoir was filled in the early 1960s as part of regional water management efforts. Built from stone quarried nearby, it was designed to supply drinking water to surrounding communities and protect towns from flooding during heavy rains.
The dam is accessible by walking paths and cycling routes that run along its length. Plan your visit during drier months, as the spillway can be active during spring when water flows are heavy and paths may be difficult to traverse.
A distinctive feature is a star-shaped water tower and a pipe-shaped structure built to resemble a submarine that serves as a control mechanism. These unusual structures stand out as memorable elements of the reservoir's infrastructure that catch many visitors' eyes.
