Lake Milada, Artificial lake in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic.
Lake Milada is an artificial lake in Ústí nad Labem with gently sloping shores and several designated swimming areas. The water is surrounded by wooded slopes that create a varied landscape for different recreational activities.
The area was mined for brown coal for many years until operations stopped in 1998. The empty pit was then flooded to create the lake as we see it today.
The formation of Lake Milada required the flooding of several former villages, including Hrbovice, Tuchomyšl, and Vyklice, altering the regional landscape.
The lake is well suited for swimming, sailing, and water sports, with designated beaches and paths going around it. It helps to check which areas are accessible before visiting, as conditions can vary by season.
During the forest fires in Bohemian Switzerland in 2022, water from the lake was used to supply firefighting aircraft. This role showed how important the lake is for regional emergency response efforts.
