Stranov, Renaissance Revival château in Jizerní Vtelno, Czech Republic.
Stranov is a Renaissance Revival château positioned on elevated ground above the Strenický stream with balanced architecture and classical design elements. The structure features carefully proportioned facades and interior spaces that embody the artistic principles of its period.
The site originated in 1429 as a wooden fortified manor and was rebuilt as a Gothic castle in 1460, later receiving its Renaissance Revival transformation. Each architectural phase reflected the artistic values dominant in its time.
The castle displays period furnishings and decorative elements that reflect how nobility lived in these rooms. Visitors can experience the daily environment and social customs of earlier inhabitants through the arranged interior spaces.
The château is open for guided tours from April through October with opportunities to explore the interior spaces. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes as the interior pathways and stairs have varying surfaces.
After nationalization in 1950, the property served as a children's home during communist rule before returning to the Šimonek family in 2003. This unexpected chapter connects the building to recent Czech history beyond its Renaissance exterior.
