Soszów Wielki, Mountain summit on the Polish-Czech border, Silesian Beskids

Soszów Wielki is an 885–886 m summit on the Polish-Czech border in the Silesian Beskids, between Cieślar and Mały Soszów. Its flattened top stretches west, with steep western slopes dropping toward the Głuchówka valley on the Czech side. About 500 m north of the summit stands a private tourist hut built in 1932.

Sources from 1801–1838 mention the shepherd settlement Gross Schaschow, i.e. Velký Sošov, used for grazing and hay. After the 1920 division of Těšínsko the ridge carried the Czechoslovak-Polish border, and a 1929 customs decree listed Velký Sošov among the parts of Nýdek. In 1932 Paweł Polok built the chalet later called U Szwarnej Hanki; the Beskidenverein ran it during the war and the Polskie Towarzystwo Tatrzańskie made it a tourist station in 1947. The Czech-side Lomosíkova chata, built 1932–1934 for 120 guests, was abandoned after 1945 and vanished in 1951.

The name Soszów comes from the shepherd settlement Gross Schaschow recorded in Hluchová sources between 1801 and 1838. The Polish chalet, built in 1932 by Paweł Polok and later called U Szwarnej Hanki, was run by the German Beskidenverein during the war and by the Polskie Towarzystwo Tatrzańskie from 1947.

Visitors should prepare for changing weather at elevation and wear sturdy hiking boots. The marked trails are accessible year-round, though snow cover in winter months can increase difficulty.

The summit carries two official names - Soszów Wielki in Polish and Velký Sošov in Czech - reflecting its location on the state border. This dual naming is a visible sign of the bilateral geography that hikers notice from either side.
