Archangel Michael's Church, Baroque church in Znojmo, Czech Republic

Archangel Michael's Church is a Romanesque church rebuilt in late Gothic style in 1508 and later given its baroque form by the Jesuits after 1624. It stands at the highest point of Znojmo, near the castle, and consists of two structures: the church itself and a separate baroque bell tower beside it.

The church was first mentioned in writing in 1226, probably built in the 12th century for settlers near Znojmo Castle. It was completely rebuilt in late Gothic style in 1508, then came under Lutheran preachers in the 16th century. The Jesuits took over in 1624 and rebuilt it in Baroque form.

The church is a Roman Catholic filial church of the Holy Cross parish in Znojmo. Its dedication to Saint Michael the Archangel, on the town's highest point, suggests it replaced an earlier pagan worship site. The separate baroque bell tower stands beside the church as its own structure.
