Rakovnický potok, Brook in Rakovník, Czech Republic
Rakonitzer Bach is a flowing waterway in the Central Bohemian Region that starts near Drahouš and runs southeast toward its junction. It passes through Rakovník town before meeting the Berounka river downstream.
The waterway was once called Rokytná and is linked to Rakovník, which first appeared in written records in 1252. The stream became important to how people settled and developed this part of the region.
The brook flows through the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area and shapes the local environment. People in the surrounding villages use the waterway and its banks as part of their daily landscape and for outdoor activities.
The brook is easy to reach at several spots throughout Rakovník and can be walked along on foot. The best time to visit is during warmer months when the water flow and bankside plants are most visible.
The waterway drains a large basin making it the main water source for the landscape around Rakovník. Its role in powering mills and supporting local activity over centuries is often forgotten by visitors today.
