Cathedral of the Holy Spirit

The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit is a Gothic church building in Hradec Králové featuring characteristic red brick walls contrasted by white sandstone framing around portals and windows. The structure displays typical Gothic proportions and architectural elements that define its appearance.

The building was founded in 1307 and became closely linked to the city's early development when Elizabeth Richeza of Poland used it as her residence. Over the centuries it grew to become the principal church of the Diocese of Hradec Králové.

The cathedral contains artworks spanning different periods, including a 15th-century baptismal font and a Baroque altarpiece with a painting of Saint Anthony by Petr Brandl. These pieces shape the interior and reflect artistic developments across centuries.

The building functions as an active parish church with regular services and welcomes visitors who observe appropriate behavior. It is considerate to be mindful of ongoing worship when visiting during service times.

The ceiling displays painted coats of arms representing diocesan bishops and archbishops alongside a memorial marking Pope John Paul II's 1997 visit. These decorations document significant religious moments in the place's history.
