Bašnov, Natural monument in Střížovice, Czech Republic.
Bašnov is a protected wetland area near Střížovice that combines pools, marshes, and reed-covered zones into a single interconnected landscape. The site displays the natural result of water management changes that reshaped the local terrain over recent decades.
The area was once farmland but underwent complete transformation in the 1970s when the Morava River was regulated. These water management works created the marshy conditions that now define the site.
Local residents participate in environmental education programs focused on wetland conservation and the protection of endangered species within the Bašnov area.
Access to the site is available through marked paths that start from different points and allow visitors to explore the various water habitats. Spring and summer offer the best conditions, when pathways are drier and wildlife is most active.
The site serves as a critical stopover for migrating birds that arrive in large numbers seasonally, filling the sky with their movements. These migrations make it a special viewing location for nature watchers during certain times of year.
