Winternitzovy mlýny, Mill building in Bílé Předměstí, Czech Republic.
Winternitzovy mlýny is a mill building in Bílé Předměstí located on the right bank of the Chrudimka River. The structure features large windows and a clear rectangular shape typical of early 20th-century industrial architecture.
Architect Josef Gočár designed the mill in 1910 for brothers Egon and Karel Winternitz. The building operated for over a century before finally closing in 2013.
The building carries the Winternitz family name, who operated the mill here across generations. Visitors can still see traces of this industrial past reflected in the architecture and layout of the spaces.
The site sits near the educational trail Viléma z Pernštejn and is relatively easy to locate. After renovation in 2023, it now houses galleries, conference spaces, and educational facilities open to visitors.
The building did not rely on the natural river but was powered by water from an artificial channel called Halda. This solution represented an innovative use of waterpower for industrial production at that time.
