St. Nicholas' Deanery Church, Znojmo

St. Nicholas' Deanery Church in Znojmo is a Gothic place of worship with a three-nave hall supported by cylindrical pillars and decorated with Gothic frescoes in the chancel. The tower was added in the mid-19th century and completes the structure's overall form.

The building was originally founded as a Romanesque structure and later transferred to the newly established Louka Abbey by a Duke. Over centuries, the church underwent changes that transformed it into the Gothic form visible today.

The church contains Gothic sculptures and a Baroque pulpit shaped like a globe, showing how different art styles were layered here over time. The Neo-Gothic organ adds another layer of decoration to the interior.

The church sits in the center of Znojmo at Mikulášské náměstí and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should know that regular services take place here, so access may vary depending on the time of visit.

In 1437, the body of a major European ruler was publicly displayed here, making the building temporarily a site of high political importance. This event is less commonly recalled today but catches the attention of history enthusiasts.
