Přírodní rezervace Zbytka, protected area in Czech Republic
Přírodní rezervace Zbytka is a nature reserve near Bohuslavice in the Czech Republic featuring wetland meadows, riparian forests, and waterways. The landscape is shaped by the meandering Dedina river and dotted with springs of alkaline water, drainage channels, and small ponds.
The area was established as a nature reserve in 1994 to protect rare plants and animals. During the 20th century, drainage and redirection of the Lité stream caused loss of wetland habitats and some endangered species.
The name Zbytka refers to the remnants of original ecosystems preserved in this landscape. Visitors can observe how wetland meadows and riparian forests support rare plants like bear's garlic and pasque flowers that grow naturally here.
Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is wet and paths can become muddy. Stay on marked trails and follow protection rules to avoid disturbing the sensitive wildlife and habitats in this area.
The area harbors critically endangered plants such as elevated violets and orchids like Military Orchid that are found almost nowhere else in the region. These rare species thrive only in the special soil conditions created by alkaline springs.
