Josef Sudek Studio, Photography museum and art gallery in Újezd, Czech Republic
The Josef Sudek Studio is a single-story pavilion covering about 61 square meters situated in a courtyard between residential buildings on Újezd Street. The space preserves the original layout and shows how a photographer arranged his darkroom and artistic workspace.
The building originated in 1901 and was later used by the photographer as his workspace from 1927 to 1976. After this period, the pavilion was restored in 2000 following the original specifications.
The studio honors the legacy of a major Czech photographer and shows how he worked and pursued his artistic vision. Visitors can see how a 20th-century photographer used his space and what working methods he practiced.
The site is usually open from Tuesday to Sunday in the afternoon and early evening, and visitors should expect brief opening hours. Those interested can arrange for a guided tour to learn more about the photographer's work.
The studio is one of the last remaining workplaces from this photography era in Central Europe. The pavilion shows how photographers created images before the digital age, using the equipment and techniques available at that time.
