Baba – V bukách, Nature reserve near Bohdalov, Czech Republic

Baba – V Bukách is a nature reserve on the northern slope of the Baba ridge in the Arnolecké hory, 0.5 km east of Chroustov near Bohdalov. It protects 44.61 ha of acidophilous and herb-rich beech forests at 605–698 m, with European beech and silver fir dominant. The summit has rocks, boulder fields and stone seas.

Baba – V bukách was declared a nature reserve in 1990; a care plan for 2005–2017 was approved in 2004. Past forest management left spruce and larch monocultures in parts of the reserve, which are vulnerable to bark beetle and wind. The reserve lies on the northern slope of the Baba ridge in the Bítešská vrchovina, within the Arnolecké hory complex.

The reserve lies in the Bohdalovsko nature park, and a marked educational trail of about 38 km runs through it. The forest is most visited during mushroom season, and information boards are placed to discourage unwanted activities.

The summit of Baba, at 698 m, is covered with rock outcrops, boulder fields and stone seas. The reserve's beech stands are left to spontaneous development, and the care plan aims to raise the share of silver fir.
