Babylon viewtower, Observation tower in Kladeruby nad Oslavou, Czech Republic.
Babylon viewtower is a stone observation structure that rises on Zelený kopec hill and reaches a height of about 25 meters. The building offers a viewing platform from which visitors can survey the Moravian landscape and the surrounding region.
The structure was built in 1831 on an estate near a hunting lodge that was constructed between 1829 and 1830 by nobleman Jindřich Vilém Haugwitz. The tower was part of an upscale development of the country property in the early 1800s.
The name Babylon references an ancient legend of a towering structure and was chosen to emphasize this building's impressive height. Visitors come to experience the sweeping views and use this vantage point, which has been part of the local experience for generations.
Climbing to the viewing platform requires ascending about 105 steps and takes only a few minutes. The area around the tower is easily accessible, and it helps to visit on clear days when visibility reaches farther across the landscape.
The tower marks the endpoint of a historical path that once connected the former hunting lodge with distant Náměšť nad Oslavou castle. This path followed the Oslava River valley and remains a quiet walking route for visitors today.
