Wenkeův obchodní dům, Department store and cultural monument in Jaroměř, Czech Republic
The building features a glass facade with steel frames, concrete columns, and classical windows adorned with black ceramic pillars on the upper floor.
Josef Gočár designed this architectural landmark between 1910 and 1911 for businessman Albert Wenke, who manufactured decorative cardboard products.
The structure represents an early example of modern Czech architecture, introducing innovative construction methods that influenced future architectural developments.
The building currently houses the Municipal Museum and contains a restored historic elevator that operates for freight transport and visitor demonstrations.
The suspended steel and glass front facade, mounted on cantilevers, introduced construction techniques that were advanced for European architecture of that period.
