Úterský potok, Brook in Karlovarský kraj, Czech Republic
The Úterský potok is a brook that flows southward from its source near Třebouň through forested valleys until it reaches the Hracholusky reservoir. The waterway receives water from several tributary streams as it winds through the landscape of the Karlovarský region.
The brook historically powered several watermills that operated for generations along its course in the region. The remains and sites of these mills still mark the industrial past of the valley.
The lower section of the brook received protection as Úterský potok Nature Park in 1997, covering an area of 1,805 hectares.
The brook is easiest to explore after snow melt or heavy rainfall when water levels are higher. The valley is uninhabited and mostly undeveloped, making it straightforward to follow the waterway.
The brook is fed by nine tributaries that flow down from the surrounding forested slopes, creating an intricate water network. These tributaries are vital to the waterway's flow, especially during drier months.
