Caves of Javoříčko, Limestone cave system in Luká, Czech Republic
Caves of Javoříčko is a limestone cave system located beneath Špraněk Hill near Luká. The system extends for several kilometers and features multiple chambers, passages, and vertical shafts carved from Devonian limestone deposits.
The cave system was discovered in 1938 by a team led by game warden Vilém Švec, though written records about the caves appeared as early as 1873. Exploration and documentation since then have greatly expanded knowledge of this underground formation.
The caves have long drawn people curious about underground formations and geology. Visitors today come to experience how nature has carved these passages and chambers over millions of years.
The entrance is about 900 meters uphill from the parking area, so visitors should be prepared for a steep walk. Guided tours of different lengths are available to match various fitness levels and interests.
The system contains helictites, unusual mineral structures that grow in all directions defying gravity. A distinctive formation called the Curtain is a limestone sheet about two meters long with remarkable appearance.
