The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a baroque basilica sitting on a hilltop in Chvalčov, Czech Republic, with two prismatic towers topped with pyramidal roofs. The complex also includes lodging for pilgrims and a Stations of the Cross path on the surrounding grounds.
Religious buildings have stood at this site since the 13th century, and construction of the current baroque structure began in 1721. The church grew over time as more space was needed to welcome the increasing number of pilgrims coming to the hill.
The western facade of the basilica features a large mosaic of the Virgin Mary made from glass tiles brought from Italy. Visitors notice it as they climb the hill, and it shapes the first impression of the building before they reach the entrance.

According to local tradition, a natural spring appeared at this spot during a medieval siege and gave water to those sheltering on the hill. The spring is still there today and is seen as a sign of the site's long spiritual history.
