The collection of carved limestone figures spreads across a forested area near Kuks, featuring religious scenes and biblical characters carved directly into rock formations.
Count František Antonín Špork purchased the forest in 1717 for 2900 gold pieces to create a meditation space for spa guests visiting Kuks.
Matthias Bernard Braun's workshop crafted these religious sculptures between 1723 and 1732, incorporating both biblical narratives and hermitage elements into natural rock formations.
The sculptures form part of an educational trail called 'We Will Go to Bethlehem Together', which connects the town of Kuks with the forest installation.
The stone figures endured damage during the construction of Josefov fortress in 1780, when parts of the rock formations were removed for building materials.
