Výpustek, Show cave in Moravian Karst, Czech Republic.
Výpustek is a show cave in the Moravian Karst with passages extending across two levels and totaling 1300 meters in length. Visitors walk through about 600 meters of navigable passages while experiencing constant temperatures between 7 and 8 degrees Celsius.
The cave formed naturally as part of an ancient water system within the karst landscape. During World War II, German forces converted it into an aircraft engine manufacturing facility and subsequently used it as a military headquarters.
The cave contains important paleontological findings, including complete skeletons of early Quaternary fauna that contribute to scientific research.
The air inside remains cold and very damp with humidity around 95 percent, so bring warm clothing for your visit. The walking paths are well-developed and easy to navigate through the cave.
Phosphate clay extraction significantly enlarged the cave, roughly doubling its original size through mining operations. This human modification opened up much of the system for visitor access today.
