New Building CTU, Educational complex in Dejvice, Czech Republic

New Building CTU is an educational structure in Dejvice with eight floors above ground and three basement levels arranged in a distinctive L-shaped form. The design features protruding lecture hall sections that visibly stand out from the main structure.

A 2004 competition drew 35 teams; the jury chose Alena Šrámková with Lukáš Ehl and Tomáš Koumar. The project was drawn up in 2005–2009, built in 2009–2010 on the campus's last free plot, and opened on 22 February 2011.

The building has housed the Faculty of Architecture since 2011, while the Faculty of Information Technology occupies the third floor and also uses lecture rooms here. The architect Alena Šrámková summed up the design in three principles: simplicity, openness and truthfulness.

The main entrance opens onto a paved square courtyard that also serves as an open teaching and gathering space. A side entrance and the garage ramp lie between the three lecture-hall blocks facing Bechyňova Street, and a first-floor bridge links the building to the Faculty of Civil Engineering's Building A.

Architect Alena Šrámková's original design placed John Hejduk's sculptures "House of the Suicide" and "House of the Mother of the Suicide," inspired by Jan Palach's 1968 act, on the entrance courtyard. The jury advised against siting them there given the space's character, so they were never installed.
