Lom u Devíti Křížů, Sandstone quarry in Havlovice, Czech Republic
The quarry spans 90 by 80 meters with walls reaching 10 meters high, displaying layers of kaolinitic-quartz sandstone from the Middle Triassic period.
During medieval construction, stones extracted from this quarry were incorporated into the building materials of Vízmburk castle in the surrounding region.
Scientists discovered the first dinosaur footprints in Czech territory at this location, including an 18-centimeter-wide three-toed print from a predatory dinosaur.
The quarry maintains active operations while simultaneously serving as a research site for geologists studying sedimentary formations and paleontological discoveries.
The stone walls contain preserved mud cracks, gas escape traces, and cycad plant remains from approximately 210 million years ago.
