České údolí Reservoir, reservoir in Plzeň, Czech Republic
The České údolí Reservoir lies on the Radbúza River south of Plzen in Litice and is also known as Borská or Litická Reservoir. Built as an earth-filled dam with concrete facing between 1969 and 1972, it stores water while a road crosses over it in an arched path.
Construction of the dam began in 1969 and was completed in 1972, requiring a special arched road to cross above the flooded valley. Until 2004, this arched crossing was the main route connecting Plzen to Klatovy before the road was rerouted.
The reservoir was named after the valley where it was built, showing how water management shaped settlement patterns in the area. Today it serves as a gathering place where locals enjoy walks, cycling, water sports, and family activities around the parks and natural shoreline.
The area around the reservoir is easily accessible for walks, cycling, and water activities such as kayaking and paddle-boats, with parks and recreation areas on the shores. Visitors should know that water quality varies by season and swimming conditions change throughout the year.
Paddle-boats are the most common vessels on the lake, though modern paddleboards have become increasingly popular for visitors exploring the water. While paddling or boating, travelers often notice the Bory Prison complex on the left shore, a large institutional building that stands out prominently along the waterside.
