Kočičí skály

Kočičí skály is a natural monument featuring sandstone rock formations that stretch roughly 750 meters along the northeastern slope of Mount Ostaš. The rocks date from the Upper Cretaceous period and create distinctive formations that visitors can explore from established trails.

This site received official protection status in 1956 when authorities designated it as a natural monument with conservation measures in place. The legal protection ensured that the rock formations and cave would be preserved for future generations.

The southern section includes a cave linked to the Czech Brethren, a community that left its mark on local identity. Visitors come to this place to connect with this important chapter in regional heritage.

Follow the green-marked hiking trail from Police nad Metují to reach this location using well-established pathways. The routes are clearly defined and easy to navigate, even for those without extensive hiking experience.

The rock formations create two small rock cities on Mount Ostaš that display distinctive patterns in the Upper Cretaceous sandstone. These natural structures resemble miniature stone landscapes carved by geological processes.
