Velké Opatovice Castle

Velké Opatovice Castle is a Baroque Revival structure featuring symmetrical facades and decorative stone details across its exterior. The building now serves multiple purposes including museums, a cinema, and municipal offices within its complex.

The castle was built in 1757 on the grounds of a former Gothic fortress and underwent major changes when Art Nouveau elements were added in 1913. Following a fire in 1973, it was extensively restored to recover its late Baroque appearance.

The castle holds the Moravian Cartographic Centre and displays regional collections that tell the story of local crafts, people, and artistic traditions.

The building is easily accessible and sits in the town center, making it simple to reach the various facilities inside. The interior spaces are clearly marked, allowing visitors to navigate through the museums and other areas independently.

The building originally served as a residential castle but gradually transformed into an important administrative and cultural hub for the wider region. This shift is evident in the diverse modern functions now housed under a single roof.
