Portmoneum

The Portmoneum is a two-story house where almost every room features hand-painted wall decorations and artistic details covering the interior surfaces. The spaces showcase a range of artistic styles and designs that transform the building into a living artwork.

In 1920, the house owner invited an artist to decorate and beautify the living spaces with creative designs and paintings. The building was later restored and opened to the public as a museum in 1991 after many years of neglect.

The rooms display hand-painted walls and ornamental details created by Josef Váchal, showing his artistic techniques and vision. These decorations reflect the close working relationship that developed between the house owner and the artist during their time together.

The museum operates on a seasonal schedule with varying hours depending on the time of year and day of the week. Check ahead before visiting to confirm opening times, as access changes throughout the year.

The upper floor contains a multimedia exhibition space where visitors can explore the artistic methods and creative process in more depth. This additional layer reveals how the decorations were planned and executed throughout the building.
