Bohdanka, Observation tower in Bohdaneč, Czech Republic.
Bohdanka is a wooden observation tower in Bohdaneč that rises 52 meters high into the sky. A viewing platform at 42 meters height is accessed by climbing 216 steps through the interior of the structure.
The tower came from the Look Around Bohdanč project that started in 2003 and extended over several years of preparation. Construction finished in spring 2011 after careful planning and design work.
Local universities collaborated on the project, with Czech Technical University Prague and Technical University Brno creating detailed documentation.
The best approach is to follow road 339 toward Ledče nad Sázavou and turn right at the edge of Bohdaneč pond. Visitors who wear sturdy shoes and have reasonable fitness will find the climb more manageable.
The structure uses about 160 cubic meters of timber, with spruce forming the base and weather-resistant larch used in the upper sections. This combination of materials allows the tower to withstand the elements over time.
