Pecopala, Mountain summit in Doksy, Czech Republic
Großer Petzberg is a mountain summit in the Břehyně-Pecopala Natural Reserve in northern Bohemia, reaching 280 meters in elevation. The area features forested slopes, clearings, and views across the surrounding rolling landscape.
The summit area was part of the former Ralsko military territory, which restricted access and shaped regional development for decades. After this restricted zone closed, the area gradually opened to the public for recreation.
The Bezděz Castle near Pecopala stands as a testament to medieval Czech architecture, visible from various points along the hiking trails.
Multiple marked trails reach the summit through the nature reserve, with connections to cycling routes and public transit from nearby towns Doksy and Mimoň. The paths are generally easy to walk, though sturdy shoes and caution after rain are recommended.
The summit offers views down to Břehyňský Pond, where a historic building on the dam once functioned as the Zum Taichrose inn. Today it houses apartments but remains a noteworthy landmark in the landscape.
