Buštěhrad Chateau

Buštěhrad Chateau is a baroque building from the 18th century located on elevated ground and surrounded by a spacious park. The structure displays a symmetrical composition with wings extending from the central section.

This building was constructed between 1747 and 1753, replacing a medieval fortification that had occupied the site. The architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer, a prominent baroque master, designed the structure.

The place reflects different architectural periods layered on top of each other, visible in how the settlement around it developed over time. Walking through the grounds, you can see how medieval and baroque styles coexist in the landscape today.

The building is currently undergoing extensive restoration, so check ahead about access before visiting. Guided tours are mainly offered during special events like the annual Bushfest cultural festival.

Houses were built within the ruins of the original medieval castle, forming a residential quarter known as Starý Hrad. This creates a rare situation where residents and visitors actually live and walk within the remains of an earlier fortress.
